Alright Paul "Scissors"here,lol how you doing, you missed a cracking scooter rideout this afternoon, are you living in that "Land Of A Thousand Inbreeds" down in darkest Cornwall or is it Devon? Ha,ha, there was a lot of Mods out today, been a good Mod Weekender so far, glad you still have fond memories of our good times, quite strange talking about Davie Martin,just saw a photo of him about 4 hours ago,one of Donalds collection, even Christine!(Uddingston) brilliant! PS. more Easterhouse mods: Me! (Twinlaw St.) Wee Mick (the chef, who sometimes forgot to leave his canvas roll of chef's knives at work, and who I once saw throw somebody oot the road tae get INTAE a fight in Ayr...); Davy Martin (orange P range Vespa, went oot with Jackie Morrison), Sheeny (who is responsible for one of the funniest things I've ever seen, namely, trying to bump start his brown 50 special in front of the bandstand, heid doon and pushing hard he ran straight into the back of a parked car... absolutely fuckin priceless); Paul McDevitt (no comment); and there was somebody who used to hang about with us, what was his name now... something like "scissors"... real mental case he was... :-)

There's not many people our age who can look back on their early years and not cringe (new romantics anyone? LOL). I'm fuckin proud of what I was and what we all were. Clean living under difficult circumstances indeed.

Cheers, and have you seen Easterhouse lately? Fuck me it makes the place I grew up in look even more like the fuckin Gulag that it was.

Believe it or not NG there were a good few who I recon were older than Charlie back in the good old Mod heydays of 81/82. It may be that I just thought that he was younger than he actually was, but when I was 17 going up to the Scene Club there were quite a few Mods who would have been at least 19. Can you really imagine such oldies.

The first time I went down south and met Mods aged 22, 23 and older I could not believe it. I wondered how in hell they could get away with such crazy behaviour. The scooter boys (okay men) were even older on their cutdowns and flabby beer guts.

I remember some of the Fire Brigade division: Prenty, Mitch, Doe, Big Steph, all on the red 50 specials as you so well recall.

I would have thought that Geordie Stein would have been older than you Charlie, but then again, maybe he had a harder life. I used to go out with a girl just off Lochend Road and I used to love going past Geordies house when the Lammy (or Servetta) was parked outside all moded up, what a sight.

I don't recall the Damian scooter with the dubious regi plate thank god. I certainly would not have driven a scoot with that registration number. It was bad enough going about then being hassled by neds, rockabillies, skins, punks, and teds, without the bible mob having a go as well

HI Chris I knew a lot of Mods from Easterhouse, Geordie was in my school, Lochend Secondary, in one of my earlier comments, they used to call the all the young Mods on Scooters "The Fire Brigade" up at Lochend/Commonhead way as they all drove red 50 Specials! I don't know if you would remember a Black Lambretta everyone called "The Hearse" as it had the 666 reg number plates, I am not sure who owned it, and where the Mod who owned it came from. I think it may have been Barlarnark / Garrowhill way. There was a lot of freaky s**t attached to it's history and it wasn't made up "Ghost Stories" to scare people, cause of the registraton plates.

When I first became a Mod there was certainly a lot of Mods around in the Easterhouse area. Craigend and Garthamlock were both areas that had quite a lot of Mods, and the top end of Easterhouse, up at Lochend Road was also a bit of a Mod stronghold. My cousin stayed in Provanhall, and that was the opposite of a Mod stronghold.

There was a guy up at the top end called Geordie Stein. He had a Jet 200, and when it was done up with all the lights and mirrors attached it was absolutely stunning.

i went to 'the greg' - unfortunately when i became a mod there weren't many around in cranhill.

i live in england now but the last time i was up in glasgow we drove through Cranhill - St Gregories is gone and Bellrock Street has been completely transformed - it's changed from the Bronx into Brooklyn!

Great vid Steph. Very enjoyable. A very good friend of mine called Kenny McDonald is in it near the front on his white Vespa 50. I once took a shot of it from Germiston down to my house in Sighthill and it felt like it was travelling at about 10 mph instead of 35.
