Any one remeber the do in the pierce institute run by the Civic Mods?
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Hi I believe in a conversation with Quinny some time ago, there is a certain Mod
I am not 100 per cent on who his name is it maybe Kevin Conn? He has The Glasgow Mod group photo of us all at The Pierce Institute, front page of the
local Govan Times on that crazy first night we had,so Quinny or Rab, or the owner of the newspaper, we would very much appreciate if you send or upload
the photo to Jimmy at Admin, that would be a real Easter treat for yer Auld Uncle
Charlie and most importantly, keep the Mod spirit alive and winkle pickin' 'n' kickin' for generations still to come."Good Times" as Eric Burdon sang ".....talkin' bout good times!"Charlie News At Ten,Maryhill!

Thought I was seeing things when I clicked on the Largs photo there no doubt about it the towering figure of Big Shaun, and "Mini Me" figure of Davie Blair!!!
What was that Reporter on?BROTHEL CREEPERS? methinks Suede Penny Loafers, huge difference,I think the Reporter was an old Teddy Boy,recovering from his injuries Mods 64,STYLE! ha,ha!
  • Rab McNamara · 1 year ago
Ha HA YEAH well it does say mods stroll out from the past, sounds as if we wsauntered on down to Largs, I don`t remember much strolling either.
  • Rab McNamara · 1 year ago
Any one remember Girvan, the year big Stevie Corbet ebtered the chipy through the front window? (no disrespect Stevie) About that paper cutting charlie, was that not of the do Tam and the boys from penilee put on?
  • N.G. MODS · 1 year ago
The train journey doon wis quite eventful as weel ! six carriages pack'd oot wi Mods frae all o'er the West Coast and beyond. I don't think there was a fire extinguisher left untouched.

Being met at Girvan Train Station, by the polis, who were checkin' us for weapons and cairry oots oh and a valid ticket.

Big Stevie had his winter (white) snow parka oan, nae wonder he went through the windae.

  • Charlie · 1 year ago
I can remember Livi, leading us all into a mass pre Karaoke before version of "Do Wah Diddy" sing song on the train!!! that I will, never forget,me and Livi got a Boys In Blue escort in a van out of Girvan, all we done was soon as they let us go,jumped back on the first train, and we got back to Girvan, before we're
Police Escort did!!! Priceless look on their coupons, when they saw me and Livi
back on the beach! You could literally lip read, the words "Cheeky BLANKETY BLANK,CHEQUE BOOK AND PEN!" when we ran past them to make a Citizens Arrest of those delinquents who nudged Stevie Corbett through the Chippy window!
  • TYB Civic mod · 1 year ago
hahaha Livi, what a bloke.... I ran into him at a Scotland United rally in George Square once, he was in Highland warrior get up and if I remember right had an alsation, we had a gas and then went oor separate ways... I remember a wee "fallout" we had with local West Coast mods after they had ganged up on Mick Herron fae Cambuslang at a Gerry & the Pacemakers coast gig he went to with his bird, telling him what they thought of the Civic... we had been hearded on a train by the OB, when Mick spotted the bloke on the platform that was the ringleader of the abusers... I called him over to the window to shake his hand then tried tae get him onboard as all **** broke loose hahaha. I was hitting the bloke with everything and he was just soaking it up, TG some of teh troops jopinmed in and we had about 30 seconds of dancing in the carriage till they got aff. Felt like it went on for ages...took me ages tae get ma wind back!!! haha

    TYB :¬)
  • N.G. MODS · 1 year ago
G, that wee stramash didnae happen at Largs did it ! I remember it kick'd aff wi some Mods frae Kilburnie oar there aboots, jist as oor train wis aboot tae leave the platform. There wis uproar in 'oor carriage. In those days ye could open the train doors.

Did Martin fae Pollock (specs) did ye no jine The Moonlighters ? I still remember him wi that caur battery at the back o his Lambretta tae power his front lichts.

Oh whyt ye done when ye whaur young

  • TAM-M · 1 year ago
Hello there, Rab, Charlie, Issy ect......

With regards to the photo taken from the doo at the Pierce Institute that appeared in the Govan press you were asking about. Ive got a copy but its packed away somewhere cos im rite in the middle of moving house, when I get unpacked will post a copy on the site, or mibees bring a copy to next friday street if I can.

It was John Lawrie, Kenny, and myself that put on the first one there, and as far as I can remember oor friend fish made a late entrance after hiding in a bin when getting chased by some of the local neds, lol !!

Feck a feel old! But, no as old as some Charlie, eh! lol

All the best, see yees at some doo or other no doubt!

    KTF
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Cheers for that Tam M! Get settled into your new home first, there's plenty of time, I ain't planning to play air guitar on my heavenly harp yet! ha,ha! See you at Friday Street! Still can't believe I met John Lawrie and a busload of old faces last Friday Street, very surreal, but what a night it turned out to be, I was dancing more like Aled Jones than Tom Jones! More "Stink Bomb!" than "Sex Bomb!" All the best Tam,
  • tattiescone · 1 year ago
Aye it was a good night Charlie. Rab, Stevie and myself ended up at the casino for a late drink and flutter, hope you made your work OK Rab. I agree it was really surreal to see so many faces from so long ago. Had a look at the photos, think thats me in pic 77ish. Looks like i'm being held back, must've been some punks around. Good to see some of the faces from back then, Mickey, Cocky, Arty, Dave, Stevie and your good self of course. Brings back memories. I still dont understand what the Kilbirnie mods had a against the Glasgow mods. Why did they try to attack us on the train on that Girvain trip. Never seemed right mods fighting mods but we showed them what for anyway. Must be about 25 years since we were all together. Somebody needs to get a hold of Angie Sneddon, as she was the photograph queen. Hope to catch up again sometime. Cheers for the site and the trip down memory lane.

Just wondering, does anybody have any pictures from The Polish Club ? many a great nite was had there, especially the nite when the scooters got kicked over.

What about The Tangerine Knights Mod Scooter Club anybody got any pictures from that time ?
  • JimmyTheMod · 1 year ago
Will be interesting to see if any of those turn up..
  • Rab McNamara · 1 year ago
Jim, there were loads o` pics from the polish club. Some went on the Fri st page ages ago. I remember the night the scoots got kicked over and god only knows why one would take photos of that!!!!!! nice to see you`ve lost that ayrshire twang mate lol
  • Rab McNamara · 1 year ago
Tattie scone!!!???? would you believe I fell asleep 10mins before I was due to head out the door but don`t say to anyone as I may be embarressed lol of course
  • N.G. MODS · 1 year ago
Rab, i wasn't aware that any pictures from the Polish Club were posted. Went to jessops the other day to get reprints from an old 110mm spool, for this site and it wasn't cheap. Its getting harder and harder to get 110mm developed, and i will presume that most peoples pictures are 110mm as they were the most common pictures from the 8'ts !!

Hopefully in these pictures is Gerry MacFadyen, from the time we went to Lincoln Mod Meeting, although he is pushing the Lambretta, but what else were they made for ?

As for the scooters getting kicked over, I was just thinking back to all the great nites that we had, I would be very surprised if somebody had a photograph of that.

Before I leave, what ever became of Robert Archiebald Kerr fae Erskine !!!!
  • rab_kerr · 5 months ago
im still in erskine ng (cant work out who you are?) but im amazed you remembered my middle name ;-)
just recently found website and enjoying trip down memory lane.

Charlie, you were observed last nite going to a cash point at St Georges Cross, don't think my taxi driver understood what I was saying. I just said, it would'nt be his card ! When you putting your pictures up ?
  • Danny The Mod · 1 year ago
    Rab,

do you remeber the time we met you walking through the Barra'a and you told is 5 punks were trying start on you, so we followed them and attacked them outside of Dee's in the Trongate, Big Jason was running around like a man posessed? One of the punks got a right bad eye injury when someone bounced his face off a bin.
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Hey Charlie - that wouldn't be you posting blank posts just to keep yourself at the top of the posters "leader table" would it!!!!???

Hi NG, I thought it was Largs we had the probs wae Kilburnie, but it may well have been Girvan as am getting old haha....  yeh, I started teh Moonlighters...we used tae do a fanzine which one of teh old scooterboys I keep in contact still has a copy of...it was called Moonlighting and was full a Glasgow gas.
  • N.G. MODS · 1 year ago
It was Largs Train Station, on the platform, and I still have my train ticket from that day. I don't recall having any problems with any other mods at Girvan.

I've just dug out 100's more photos and articles. Micky Oates and The Scooter Centre receipts !!!
  • Dannythe Mod · 1 year ago
I remember the incident with the Kilburnie Mods. It was after Girvan 85 i think, however, i thought it happened at Kilburnie Station, on the platform!

I seem to remember that half of the Kilburnie Mods on the platform were never at Girvan, they just turned up for the train pulling in (i think)?

Then again, they all looked the same back then!
  • Rudieboy · 1 year ago

  • ISabell · 1 year ago
Oooops that went before I was finished!! Was going to say that they photos sure bring back memories - fantastic :0)

I spent the best part of 20 minutes screaming at the screen as it went through the photos - was chuffed to see myself in the background in the One Up photos then nearly passed out when the one of me, Audrey, Sharon & Cammy appeared - was I ever that young???

There must be more photos of the One Up and the Hawaiian Grill out there somewhere??
  • ISabell · 1 year ago

    WE ARE THE MODS
  • TYB Civic mod · 1 year ago
I remember the skins attacking us one sunny day on the back road of the barras, as me and a few of the lads were heading home. There was an army of them...tooled up with golf clubs and bats, I was heading to the crazy house railway bridgey bit when I heard this almighty roar behind us....they charged a handful of us and I just managed to get in a shop and hold teh door closed as they tried to boot the door in.... they weren't Glasgow skins whoever they were, and they were a good deal older and uglier haha
  • STING · 1 year ago
hey pryce, what you saying that I wasent there?I remember we where all in that cafe when aboute 20 glasgow skins came down for a fight, I was busy eating my roll in sausage when all the mod chics started screaming and charlie was busy trying to run out the back door with a few so called hard mods-I went out the front and smashed two bottles and said somthing like"you lot will probably kick my c**t in but im taking a few with me" and they new I meant it,when the skins f****d off charlie came back saying he backed me up at the door ,funny I dident see him.I was there alright standing my ground as usual much like today but its not skins that are my enemy now its the Taliban, what do you do now? and who the f**k are the NG MODS anyway?
  • STING · 1 year ago

    W-E-M W-E-M
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Its all possibly a bit complicated, but the north Glasgow Mods were the Mods that hailed from the north side of Glasgow. Quite a tough one to get the mind around but that is probably the simplest way to describe it.
  • STING · 1 year ago
Fuck me its daylight i'd better go to bed.
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Hi Sting I think you forget me, Livvi and Shaun, Mick Young,Sheeny, Div and Pek were walking in amongst these Skinheads, I for one have never ran out of a back door, period, not in a million years sonny boy, never knew any hard Mods, either only mates who stood by each other, must have been 2 bottles of vinegar in your hand that day, you will never say I ran out a door, can't believe you have said that, what are you all about?
  • Big Paul · 1 year ago
    Hear hear Charlie...

We've thrown people oot the road tae gat INTAE a fight...

    Paul.
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Cheers Paul, I like to remember the good times and lifelong friendships that stem from our time together, with the people around us, nothing was impossible, all of us, were in it, it was one big family, we argued and fought like brothers and sisters do, when it came to the crunch, we stood up for the person beside us, forgot too mention Billy Parker, Stevie Kaleem, yourself, Drummy, Jimmy The Mod and probably another 140 others. The day Sting fondly remembers was the Skinheads from Falkirk, I will need to get Jimmy to put The Doors "Back Door Man" as a request for myself as my theme tune, if anyone else can think of a song along these lines, let me know as I am partial to a good laugh at life, once again Paul, cheers and I hope life is treating you well.
  • Fudgie · 1 year ago
For what it`s worth...I have NEVER seen Charlie run away from any fight.

    We ALL stood together....ALWAYS.

    Glasgow Mods
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Also, for what its worth. I never saw an EE Mod run away from a fight. I may have seen them start many a fight, even in an empty house, but not run away from one.

In case anyone is wondering about the lack of lol. I am DEFINITELY only kidding about the starting a fight bit.
  • STING · 1 year ago
Charlie actually it was iron bru bottles, and I was too busy looking at the skins, it was what I was told later about people using the back door to escape maybe I got it wrong but names wher mentioned, sorry mate not trying to upset anybody, maybe I should'nt listen to hearsay but at the time it did upset me that more people did'nt come out the front with me, sorry, and its been a while since anybodys called me sonny boy, infact I think you could be the first,ha,ha,ha,ha,we had that many fights with skins I guess it can get hazey, I know for a long time I fucking hated skinheads, hey if you want to smooth it over with a beer drop me a line-richardmcknight67@yahoo.co.uk- we could meet up,and I would love to see livi.
  • N.G. MODS · 1 year ago
I suppose I'm gonnae have to start putting my other pictures up soon. Glasgow Mods in the 1990's there WAS such a thing.
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Yes indeed 'Mr with the Glasses' show us your proof. (s) It would be interesting to see if I recognise any faces from that time, as I did not know so many from the mid 80s period. Was Charlie still about then, or did he disappear in much the same way he has done in recent days?
  • Mr Honeythief · 1 year ago
Recenly joind the site and I'm looking for some help already .. Did anyone go the Festival of Wheels in the SECC in the late 80's , early 90's ? I had a Lambretta Chopper on show called The Honeythief , with WInne the Pooh in a leather jacket on the petrol tank , and have recently lost most of the photographs I had of my pride and joy .. Its was right next Rhapsody and Blues , so if anyone has any photies of the even , with even a hint of my trusty steed in it , could you please get in touch ..

    thanks

    Deek
  • Mr Honeythief · 1 year ago
Apologies , apologies .. looking through the site is bringing back so many memories and makingme regret never having a camera with me .. Another plea for some more photo's this time of the Ska Festival held at the Plaza Ballroom in the early 90's ... Bad Manners highlighted , with Capone and the Bullets and I think the Toasters.. I had the honour of DJ'ing between the bands , while they were setting up and the site of hundreds of mods skins and scotterists skanking away will live in my memory forever .. I'm looking for any photo's from that night , or if anyone can help me out with any info ...

    Keep The Faith

haha, well I hpoed you would honour us with a visit Deek.... hope EK is lookin after ya. Yeh, well shame about the lack of camera action back in the day... anyone remember a phase when US Vietnam trenchcoats were in style...aaaaa...tried looking for one a few weeks ago with no success...epoaulettes and that ropey device on a shoulder sometimes too haha
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
I remember the trenchcoat phase very well TYB, I am sure Angie,
had taken a photo of us walking from the Bandstand to The Briggait
Cafe all dressed in various Trenchcoats, someone had shouted, we all
looked over our shoulders. Maybe one day it may turn up, who knows?
  • Janny · 1 year ago
I remember the trenchcoats too, about 82/ 83??
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
That is about right, it was around those years you mentioned, I had a
British Army trenchcoat, the inside concealed pockets were handy for
a lot of things, Janny, and they looked simply cool and stylish.
  • TYB Civic mod · 1 year ago

    They originals or re-presses?
You know what the snobby mods think of re-presses now, dont you?? :)
    If it aint original . . . :(
  • Scott · 1 year ago
The photo's are brilliant, seen an old friend from Renfrew in there, (Conny), i've always wondered what happened to him. Got me to thinking about the different styles that you wore as a Mod, and what the worst ones were. I've got to say i thought cord shoes were useless and a close second was the boxing boots phase. Both of them fell to bits in about a week. Any other contenders ?
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Hey there Mr Honeytheif, very glad that your name derives froma Lammy and not the Hipsway single with the same title. Am sure some of the guys here will have the info you're looking for....... oh and welcome aboard!!
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Re Soulboy and worst styles, we have had a few already, white terry socks, ski pants ( some of them were well dodgy!) and some of the briggait raincoats were pretty manky ( I stand guilty of that one, there were instances when Janny did indeed look like a "Janny"!!) anymore for anymore???
  • stevie fae cranhill · 1 year ago
The dogtooths we pretty crap - as a wee plastic mod i got a pair from Dee's of Trongate - the stitching burst open right down the inside leg whilst playing about at the bandstand...some kindly mod girl gave me a couple of safety pins and i headed doon the briggait to get some cheap keks.
  • Scott · 1 year ago
ha ha, think every mod must have had a pair of them. I was in Dees not that long ago, it's not changed a bit, thought they were going to lock me in untill i bought something.
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
I would have to include the Paisley patterned shirts in the Mod shocker style category, but I would also agree with soulboy that the boxing boots were absolutely naff. I also know exactly what you are talking about for going into that Dee's on the Trongate. I went in a while ago looking for a certain colour of Fred Perry that I had seen somewhere else. Due to the fact that it was not in stock there the gut was trying to convince me that it did not actually exist at all, and that I should buy something else. Just to buy something I was going to purchase a Fred Perry jacket, but they were out of those too.

And Janny, you know deep inside that you really cherished your ski pants. They looked great on the girls who had the legs for them.
  • Scott · 1 year ago
Me and my mate were in Dees and bought a couple of Harrington jackets. We were looking through the Fred Perry t's and said to the guy it's a pity he didn't have the burgundy one as they're quite hard to get. He told us to come back the next week which we did. He had the t shirt but it was a tenner dearer than the rest, as he said they were hard to get.We said i don't think so, and ordered it from Warrior on line for the actual price. He also said that there seemed to be a lot of mods coming back in and had put all his prices up. Not been back since. Typical Dees.
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
The mentality has obviously not changed in 28 years for the Dees lot. I remember around the start of 81 I went in with my cousin who was looking for either a plain black or light grey three button suit. They did not have any in and tried to fob him off with a two tone red number, saying all this crap like 'this is what all the Mods are into.' I think he thought we didn't have a clue and did not know what Mods were or were not wearing at the time. Needless to say he did not buy the two tone effort.
  • Davie Blair · 1 year ago
Soulboy - i remember conny. I was with spenno on sunday there and am meeting him again this sunday coming at his new scooter shop in lenzie. I'll ask him if he has any contact details for conny - we were members of the latter stage of the roadrunners. The last i remember he was a trainer with the army or the TA. And talkin about naff gear - cycle tops - i had one (head hangin in shame!!)
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Was it all cycling tops that you did not like Davie, or just certain one's in particular ?

I have to say that there was quite a few that I thought looked quite smart. The white Peugeot one with the black lettering looked really good I thought. I also had a pair of cycling shoes that I loved. But it took about three weeks to break them in, and before that I was walking about with blood running down my left anke sometimes.
  • Scott · 1 year ago
I remeber someone saying he had joined the Army, but nobody really new for sure. At least that'll stop him driving into parked cars. lol. I quite liked cycling tops, i had the whit Peugot one with the black and white checks, looked cool with your bowling shoes with the white stripe up the middle. I remember smoe Mods wearing ski jumpers never owned one myself thoght they looked ridiculous.
  • TYB Civic mod · 1 year ago

Jeez those photo's bring back memories, i'm from Livingston name Davie, former member of the Clyde Valley SC and Inferno. Was just wondering if any of you had the same misfortune as myself. On the way to Morecambe in 1984 we had just passed Kendal on the A6 when it started snowing...lol, luckily Morecambe was sunny bumped into Baz from the Globies in one of the bars where a wee drinking competition ended in us beating a few lads from Redcar, still got a Scoot but its a modern PX200 disc, would love to find my old Raliegh...later folks

Did you ever come across that photo of NG buying a round Li LI !

And you'll need to change that grav again Stevie. That wee guy looks evil.
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
Stevie did you see the 100 odd photos I scanned in and uploaded for Jackie about two weeks ago, if not, get Jimmy on the case as I told him they were there. And you know what, I've still got more photos !

Less of it Mr C I'm chilling out listening to some new sounds, well there 40 year odd old but there new tae me !
  • stevie fae cranhill · 1 year ago
i think jackie (snapper) murray's latest photos are in with 'more jackie murray photos' - there's now 337(!) photos in that post - we could split them up a bit in the future...
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
That might be about right Stevie but the last lot were scanned at a better DPI and in JPEG.................
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
You may have a long wait here NG. I think there are more photies in Jackies house than in Boots the chemist. Are we all still invited up to your pad prior to the concert on the 13th ? By the sound of it there are a few incredible records that need a good listening to. I myself will shortly be chilling out, with a cheeky wee Australian Merlot.
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Merlot eh? That's bit posh is it not??
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
You wouldn't say that Janny if you knew how much it cost me. I have just had my fist wee drink of it there, and I have to say that it is pretty nice despite not costing too much. I used to hate such stuff before I went to Uni. There used to be all these cheese and wine do's on, so there was no alternative to the stuff. But gradually, I did require a taste for it.
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
Australian Merlot !!! Mr C you would have been laughed out the Bandstand with that, what would you have done for corkage ? haha

Anyway I'm sure I broke my tastes buds in with a bottle of L.D.
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
I will admit that my wine tastes then was only for the Old Englsh variety. I used to buy a bottle of that and six cans of McEwans export for the chessboard outdoor lounge. That would be consumed and we would slither up to the Scene Club around 10 O'clock. We did go through a shammy stage, where we bought a gallon of that and then mixed it with the Old English wine. As you can imagine it was absolutely lethal. And you are right, I would have been slaughtered if I had turned up with a bottle of Merlot in 1981 or 82. And I also doubt that any of the Mod guys or girls could have helped me out with a cork screw Li Li !
  • jackie · 1 year ago
Hey Chris if it wasn't for me and my camera NG would have nothing to do LILI.

There is no more photo's just waiting fo0r the last lot of photo's to be updated thanks for all your hard work NG.
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
I will look forward to seeing the rest of your snaps Jackie. You must have been out a small fortune in having those spools developed. Is there a photo of NG at the bar buying a round in by any chance Li Li !
  • jackie · 1 year ago
Sorry Chris no photo's of NG buying a round he's been saving up all his money all this time to buy all the records i'm sure he will buy a round on the 13th LILI
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
I seem to be well mentioned in this section, anyway if you check out Davy and Audrey photos, you will see me sitting at a table with a pint. Not sure who bought it though !

Will we be starting the nights festivities in your house Chris, I suppose it could be a sort of house warming party.
  • ChrisC · 1 year ago
No, we had agreed to your south side penthouse Mr G. It is far closer to the venue, and you also have all those amazing classic vinyls that we are keen to hear. But don't buy in any more than a dozen cans of Murphy's for me; i'm taking it easy that night.
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
Jackie not sure if I'm happy with the wording in the first part of the comment, thats open to conjecture.........

  • Kate, Paisley · 1 year ago
Hi Jackie - I knew/know the girl in photos 93, 95, 96 & 101. Her name is Diane Roberton and she is from Paisley - not sure how well you know her? We grew up in the highflats together until about age 12. Although Diane was a couple of years older we were all Mods in Paisley from about age 13 and used to go to StJohns, Wallneuk and Gallowhill Community club nights. she took my best friend and i to the One Up (think we weren't quite of age to go), but we had a bit of a scary experience and didn't go back! Later when we were all more into the purely Northen thing she introduced us to Vamps and Hurricanes Bar. I hadn't seen her for about 20 years, but then like me she moved back to Paisley a couple of years ago. I met her again this year because she stays in the same street as my mum & dad and i walk there all the time with my little boy. She got married in the last couple of years and had a little boy of her own at the start of the year. I'll tell her to take a look at the photos when i next bump into her as she was very into the glasgow scene for so many years.

Kate I think I found a picture of you sober keep checking back I may get round to posting them haha
  • stevie fae cranhill · 1 year ago
    Kate,

What was your scary experience in the One Up? You must reveal all!

Did Livy try to show you his rat? Did Charlie get out his Freddy & the Dreamers LP? Did somebody ask a Paisley girl to pay for her own drink?

Maybe if you tell us all NG Mod will loose these pictures of you...

    Stephen
  • Kate, Paisley · 1 year ago
    Stephen

As usual you are not too far off the mark and it in a round about way involves Paisley girls and the scary thought of them paying for their own drinks...

Hope that will suffice and you can dispose of any further offending photos!

    Kate
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
Kate I've just saw some photos of you singing on a stage with a few others. Where youse the Glasgow Mods version of The Supremes can you guess who your two female sidekicks were ? I suppose I could write an article and post them haha
  • Kate, Paisley · 1 year ago
No article please, and as a trade the two other group members were Geraldine McCabe and Sharon McKinstry, later Sharon Valente - Sharon would definately have been on lead vocals!
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
I'm impressed Kate, I'll need to go back and look at the photos now. I can just see it now, a wee video with some sound set to youse three performing haha Charlie might even get the three of you to reform !!!
  • NGMods · 1 year ago
You've got the microphone Kate never had you down as a lead vocalist haha

Hi soulkitchen. The photo's sound the biz. I'm sure one of the guys such as Jimmy, Charlie, or Stevie would be grateful to be sent them in order to put them on the site.

I know (or knew) some of the people you are referring to. I knew Ped Burns, although I have not seen him for a long time. The same applies to wee Johnny Bingham, who I knew fairly well from the Scene and Lindella. Is the Rad Smith you are referring to wee Ped's brother Hairy Dan ?
  • Davie Blair · 11 months ago
Chris, i don't think its the same rab "hairy dan" smith - i'm sure he passed my house a couple months ago on his scoot. Ive been tryin to track him down to get in touch again when i saw him drive by - never got time to shout he went by that fast. Why was he called hairy dan? I kept askin him years ago but he wouldnt tell me?
Last i saw him was at Peds funeral but never got a contact number fae him.
  • ChrisC · 11 months ago
Hi Davie. As far as I recall Rab was called 'Hairy Dan' because he was a skin, well that was the reason as far as we knew anyway. I have not seen him since about 1983 or something when he used to go around with the Pollok team. And John is Stevie Binghams brother.
  • Davie Blair · 11 months ago
John Bingham - is that Stevies brother?
  • matt drennan · 11 months ago
The Rab Smith from pollok is still about I think his brother Ped has passed away
