A million thanks Jackie, never thought I would hear this song again, The Olympia, was a buzz, "Secret Love" by Kathy Kirby a grab a granny classic!! Remember dancing to The Chucks and Bob and Earl at Pek's parties, Jimmy, how drunk were we?, thanks Jackie "Sticky Fingers" Murray for "finding" my long lost records, chuckle, chuckle, The Turtles,The Doors, to name a few. Nice to know they were safe in the loft for the past 100 years,ha ha! Thanks to Jackie and Shona for recording the "Ready Steady Go" Album for the website. It is very much appreciated.Take a bow Jackie and Shona!

Thanks Jackie, have you been showing Shona how to "Hitch Hike" all day? We loved going to the Olympia, along with The Chucks, there was PJ Proby's "Together" what a song, Bert Weedon on guitar, and everyone in a circle singing our heads off too "The Kids Are Alright" by the Who. The bus journey was a gauntlet mind you, I remember The Murray Rebs coming up to the Olympia, as soon as we came outside to greet them, they left think they were shocked by just how many Mods came out to say hello to them. Mind you the lassies were always off out the door first,ha ha! Nothing more terrifying than 60 lassies, charging towards you upset with nail files in their hands, open heart surgery on their minds, nasty, but didn't us Mods love them for it?

Jimmy I have a feeling "The Hitch Hiker" was demonstrated on the latest dances in "Ready, Steady, Go!" by their "dancer" Paul Raven, a.k.a Gary Glitter he had a regular spot showing the "moves" Maybe worth checking out, what do you think?

There was a Ready Steady Win which featured the contestants who appeared on RSG. The Bo Street Runners won it.

Paul Gadd was more of a warm up man who assisted with moving the dancers out of the way of the cameras and getting them to scream at the bands.A Crowd Controller who in others shows would have held a sign with APPLAUSE on it.
Patrick kerr demonstrated the dances. You can see him 1.55 dancing to Ike and Tina Turner's can't believe what you say.

and at 05.22 he's doing the Hitch Hike in a line dance. Charlie will be leading this off at the next Friday street. remember it's hands on hips, knees and for gawd's sake make sure you're zipped up.

Brilliant Felonious - I always thought that the audience in Ready Steady Go was way more interesting than the bands!
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Need to get some practice in for that Felonius, couldn't rememember Mr G's second name, thanks for refreshing the memory, I knew "Raven" was another name he used for the group he was in the mid 60's . Thanks!

I wonder what name he is using now ?
  • Felonious · 1 year ago
You can ask him next week.

Maybe someone can do an interview with him for the site. See if he will do any of the 60s dances from Ready Steady Go.

I suppose he will be easy enough to recognise. Just look for a guy with a hamster stuck to his chin doing The Jerk.

Wonder where some of the E.K Mods are now, Mandy, Andrea and Valerie, I met Ann Karen years ago in London, she had moved to West Ruislip, would love to know how the are doing now.Perhaps if anyone knows the Auld crowd from '83,'84 time of The Olympia, get in touch.

hi charlie remember the two guys who walked round the hall all night looking at us i think they came from cathkin coss one of them allways threw a brick at the bus sad so sad
  • JimmyTheMod · 1 year ago
hi kenny that was the cathkin mob they used to throw stones at me every friday when I went past my scooter, one night I was ready for them, they could see me approach the roundabout and this time I went to the first left instead of going straight through, I had one of my old school pals with me who had a catapult and he swiped them from an angle and then he pumped a few balloons at them with a non pleasant substance they were PIMPED hahahaa...
  • Charlie · 1 year ago
Now that is flashback and a half Kenny!! Not very smart thing for them to do, you are right they were from Cathkin, think they were a couple of hitmen for Mothecare, LI LI!
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Glad to see you back again Charlie. Were you up in Cathkin looking for those brickies ? Anyway, are you still and EE Mod, or do you now qualify as one of that rare breed of WE Mods, or are you a bohemian individualist with a 60s outlook ?

And more importantly, did you get the Gary Glitter interview ?
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Good to see you back Charlie, once an east ender.........
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Oh and still waiting for opportunity for the en masse hitch hike, maybe we could do a Guiness Book of records number in george Sq, another Glasgow Mods exclusive - or maybe not - I'll get my coat.......
  • Chris C · 1 year ago
Firstly Janny, you'll need to teach some of us the steps in the first place. So you and Angie can do that. Secondly we need a time and place. What about after the 'From the Jam' gig in December. You'll definitely need your coat at that time of year though.
