    • The film did indeed change a lot of lives then and even now, still a classic. I live in London now, was a Govan Mod from 81 and hung about the Scene and Lindella. I've got to know an old mod...

Scots Of St. James - Tic Toc

Started by James T · 9 months ago

Founded out the ashes of The In Crowd, here we have another wee gem of a band from Glasgow in the 1960s called the Scots Of St. James who at one time had Hughie Nicolson in their line up. The Scots released two 45s one on Go in 1966 and another on the Spot label [...] ... Continue reading »

  • Another wee gem uncovered, well done.

I know what you mean with the Two Tone reference. It is certainly a bit of a rip of of 'Lets do Rocksready' by The Bodysnatchers. How they managed to look into the future is the mysterious part. But I suppose The Move managed to know about mobiles in 1968 with 'Blackberry Way.'
  • What another gem,if you listen to R.Dean Taylors "Gotta See Jane" you may just notice at the beginning the mixed combination of these two records as a possible intro for the landmark "Gangsters" By The Specials, thats a possibility, not a fact. P.S "Gotta See Jane" is one of Casey's fave tracks, either way The Specials will always be the band that kicked off the 2 Tone Movement, same way Mr Lydons mob kicked off with "God Save The Queen" Funny how they hated The Monarchy, but couldn't stuff Her Majesty's money into their pockets fast enough?Must be a middle class thing!
  • I always thought The Specials were a great band, and 'Gansters' is possibly my favourite track of theirs. It was not the done thing to admit being a Two Tone fan when being an early 80s Mod though, maybe something to do with the bad blood then between the Mods and skins.

I can only admit to a limited liking for the Pistols, but I don't think they are alone in disliking the monarchy and then taking large loads of dosh. I suppose if we are being honest there is no alternative. The only dosh available is the ones with the images of the queen on it, so they like the rest of us have to deal with that reality.

Anyway, did you manage to find out how you were deposed Charlie. Maybe it has something to do with your Jerry Lee Lewis connection.
  • No Chris, I have been working in the background, we have a very special post coming up, we have uncovered something unique for the website, we hope Mods
like yourself will enjoy what we have found, plus we would very much appreciate other Mods to get involved with the website,we hope N.G's excellent posts will encourage Mods from all over Scotland, to get involved, we are always open to new ideas, as for Jerry Lee? I am "Shakin' All Over", not! hee, hee!
  • I think that's Onnie McIntyre of The Scots of St. James who were joined briefly by Hamish Stuart, they then changed the name to ‘Hopscotch’ and landed a recording deal with United Artists releasing 2 singles. Stuart then left to form Dream Police in Glasgow. The Dream Police decamped to London

London was the only UK city in which to secure a recording contract. By then all future AWB members were now there working and recording;Robbie McIntosh, who with the Senate, had backed Ben E. King, Garnet Mimms etc, is now with Brian Auger's Oblivion Express with Jim Mullen and Alex Ligertwood. Alan Gorrie & Onnie McIntyre have recorded two albums with RCA as Forever More, Stuart is with The Dream Police, Duncan and Ball with Mike Rosen on trumpet (dubbed 'The Dundee Horns' by Maggie Bell), are now in demand as a horn section.
Collectively they become the unofficial house band at Island Studios working individually and/or together on various sessions, most notably Johnny Nash's 'I Can See Clearly Now'.

After recording with Bonnie Bramlett they became The Average White Band.
  • Theres nothing better than a good tune to stir a wee bit of a debate. I think The Scots mainly gigged in London, as they, like other bands realised, if you were going too make it, you have had to be London based.
  • This tune just grows on you each time you hear it, hypnotic and that organ is the mutts nuts! Thanks for the info Felonius, par excellence and detailed as always. Cheers!
  • Only just heard this - loving the Specials reference! To think my heroes from the revival years could have been influenced by something more closer to home - how cool!
  • Still on a high from last weekend, this is a feeling money can't buy, good music, living for that perfect moment, absorbing it all and Scots Of St. James "Tic Toc" blends into it for me, great videos, the vibes definitely there! Like Robert McTear says, it just gets better!
  • The Scots Of St. James, another rare gem from the Mod mine waiting to be
    unearthed and listened too.
  • Good 45 here, different and original!!!
  • Hurrah, found this again...................fab!!
  • This is just amazing, I love it - and fab lyrics we can all relate to !!
