  • CharlieM · 1 year ago
I have the Album in my collection, bought in London, 11 years ago, absolute mint condition, "How Can You Tell Me" is the best track on the album, by a mile, ( Red Mono DML 1046, Blue- Stereo SML 1046) for the serious Soul Collectors, i am thinking of selling the album, in February, so if anyone is interested in a private discussion, contact me, a fantastic video Stevie, with a quality write up, thanks, top notch!!

it's funny, in the last Edition of "The List" (Glasgow and Edinburgh's events guide), Chris Geddes from Belle and Sebastian said this was one of his favourite tracks and if it wasn't for music like this, the band would probably not have come together. All credit then. lovely Flirtations!!!

Do you mean The Flirtations are responsible for the Scottish twee scene?
  • Janny · 1 year ago
Twee scene Stevie?? I agree they are far from Mod, but if you listen to a song like "Legal Man", there are soooooooooooooo many 6t's influences running through there work, that I think it is a credit that the cool music we all love still continues to inspire todays musicians, look at Duffy and the Last Shawdow Puppets afterall !

only joking - i haven't heard much B & S stuff but i do like what i have heard, especially 'Stars of Track & Field' - However, i always get mixed up between 'Belle & Sebastian' and the 'Dogtanions' ...

I have to agree with you on this one Janny. I am also quite a fan of Belle and Sebastian and there are certainly a lot of 60s influences running right through a lot of their music, from northern soul to other stuff like 'Love' which you can hear in some tracks. Even the cover of 'Legal Man' is very 1960s in its concept.

Oh and I love their "Dan Dares"!! Charlie wouldn't snog any of them, I remember him having a problem with flares a few months back!! Mr Janny and I have just been having a discussion about where it was filmed, I thought it might have been the Abbey at Whitby ( of Dracula fame) but he thinks not, anyone know?? I feel a google coming on!!

agree with all that's been said, it's hard not to like this tune even though it's a bit overplayed.

when i found out it was recorded in the uk, i liked it even better!
