Thanks for the support
Jimmy is there not a Scene Club membership card posted on the site somewhere, that we can add to this page ?
There was so much going on at that time. Some of you will remember the Christmas 81 allnighter, and some of the videos that were shown in the bigger of the side rooms. Another weird thing I recall was that there was always guys in the girls toilets.
I remember both Shirley and Janice Charlie, but I am not so sure about Chalkie, unless he the Phil Davis character. I remember Shirley went out with a guy called Dixie for ages, and then later with Eddie Donnelly. When I first went up the clubs Janice was seeing a friend of mine called Alex Frackleton, although it did not last too long.
I won't go into what I got up to in that wee side area on the left hand side as you came into the club. I think I'll keep that info for my soon to be released best selling expose on the Glasgow Mods.
My apologies Chris, didn't happen to be Uncle Charlie did it ?
I remember the way we danced also, as it was so crowded, we had to do what I call "tight dancing" generally just moving your legs. No room for Northern Soul dancing in the club generally, main because there was no room, but also due to the fact that most of us didn't really know how to do it LOL! Boxer Beat and Dexy's were our intro to Northern Soul and I remember all the guys trying to do backflips and the hands behind the back dance. I was never a fan of Boxer Beat, therefore I have never been able to master the Northern Soul style of dancing, but i'm glad to say that I have moved on a bit from "tight dancing".
I can see why you describe the site as "approx" 64 Oswald St, as i've looked a few times and it's hard to imagine where the entrance was now.
I never had a membership, either I could not afford one or they simply stopped issuing them by my time???
I don't recall much classic R&B tunes being played it was more like you say, Doors, Yardbirds, Who, Spencer Davies Group, Rolling Stones, Small Faces, Georgie Fame, Mowtown, Blue Beat etc
Its good to realise that the Scene Club had the same impact on others that it had on me. I absolutely loved going up there each weekend, even if it was not licensed. It seems to be then, that wee Colin was indeed there all the time. And you are spot on Lammy, I also can't recall the cool DJ taking to the dance floor.
I had forgotten all about those mad late buses Robert. I got on them a few times, but on other occasions I would just walk back to Sighthill. I also remember Bobo. He was at a party we were all at in Dumbarton. These bikers all came over and started thrashing some of the scooters. No one sussed this at first, but Bobo seen it all and was supposedly shouting out of the window at them. Naturally they ignored him and his PX got kicked over before everyone spilled out of the party.
I also have to agree that a lot of the Ska songs did tend to start a bit of a ruck. That was why wee Colin was not so prone to play them after a while.
From the Scene my own favourites were 'Here Comes my Baby' by The Cat, 'Gotta Dance to Keep From Crying by The Miracles, 'Sweet Soul Music' by Arthur Conley, 'I'm a Man' by Spencer Davis, '123' by Len Barry, 'Almost Grown by The Small Faces. 'I had too Much to Dream Last Night' by The Electric Prunes. There were so many amazing songs played by Colin, who everyone will remember looked like a cooler version of the young Bob Dylan, that it would take forever. Add on the other songs that have also been mentioned as well, so just about every one was brilliant.
The only song I did not really like was 'Light my Fire' by The Doors. I liked the song okay, but it lasted too long to dance to, and I always remember most people giving up on it halfway through at the Scene Club.
We always used the late buses to get home, as it was to far to walk. Generally they were a riot, singing, smoking, drinking, shouting, fighting etc etc don't think I would be brave enough to go on one now LOL!
Who was at the last night of the Scene Club?
My Scene Club Jukebox would contain:-
Ghost in my House by R Dean Taylor
Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones
Everything I Own by Cat Stevens
Shout by LULU
Keep on Running by Spencer Davies Group
House of the Rising Sun by The Animals
We got to get out of this Place by The Animals
I will leave a few slot in the Jukebox for others to add theirs.
I'm amazed you don't recall the Electric Prunes track being played in the Scene. I had never heard of the band but I thought the song was incredible so I asked Colin about it. I do remember 'I got You Babe.' I especially remember it at the December 81 allnighter, but I won't go any further or even mention Shug Paton's name in connection with it.
As per usual, we were all at the Scene Club for the last night. It was a great night to end it, but it was so sad to realise it was the end. If I am being honest I did not really think it would be the end. I thought it would close for a few weeks to frighten us all into behaving like human beings, but sadly I was wrong.
Another track I would like to add to my favourites was 'La La La Lies' by The Who.
Two other classics I feel I should add to the Scene Club jukebox are 'First I Look at the Purse' by The Contours, and 'Needle in a Haystack' by The Velvelletes.
I am not so sure about this claim of seeing someone drunk in the Scene Club. I think you are forgetting that it was unlicensed and only sold ginger. (for those outside Glasgow Fizzy drinks)
Fudgie, and Michelle also arrived on the site recently - the place is being overrun with west end mods now!
Still, East End Mods Rule OK!
You cant be a FACE if you dont have a Grava'tar!
Despite claims of being in France we knew the reality. Stevie was spotted in the amusements in Saltcoats playing the penny push machine. That obviously explains why there were no cool t-shirts forthcoming.
Finally got my tape with The Jam at the Glasgow Apollo Chris, I'll be in touch with regards dropping a copy of for you.
Cheers for the tape thing NG. It has been a long time since I have heard that one. And also thanks to Jimmy for putting the two amazing tracks on. I was actually out the town to day taking some snaps of some of the places that are listed for the map. Oswald street must hold the world record for road works. For the past few years there has always been something going on. The street where Mickey Oates previously was must be one of the most soulless places ever, perfectly on keeping now with that part of the clydeside. The chessboard alas, is no more.
`We are the West-End Mods`....Glasgow`s finest.!
Anyway, what the hell is going on up in the west end. Have they ran out of Earl Grey or something. I can sense a lot of hostility coming from there tonight.
Glasgow Mods.
I meant to ask you Charlie if Ian McLagan was in good form after the gig during the week.
Charlie am I right in saying the the two Govan Mod nights were Civic related ? and I believe there was also a specific Civic Mod nite in the One Up.
Charlie it was indeed `The Main Attractions`who sang the version of that song we used to dance to and i would be over the moon if you uploaded it,i lost my copy of that song and i have not heard it in years..Thank you.
Well sayed Jimmy...It`s the Glasgow Mods...not the N.G.Mods...Hehehe
Ask Charlie, he's looking for the Great Society tracks haha
You obviously knew Jason quite well, its a pity there is no footage of him dancing then. That would certainly rival any of that nothern style stuff eh.
I have a few photos of Steve at the time he went to the Scene Club, but none actually in the Scene Club.
http://en.gravatar.com/userimage/4576419/6e729e...
You mentioned Spenny in a previous comment. I knew Spenny very well from both school and then as a Mod and even for a good while afterwards. In my photo's section it is actually Spenny's scooter that I am sitting on outside of the Star Club. It says something about the Polish Club but that is wrong.
I will certainly keep up my search for these Scene Club and early 80s Mod photo's. They are definitely out there its just a matter of someone seing this site and putting them on.
The main thing is that we're starting to find out that there out there, it's just a matter of time before we source them !
I shall take this on as my personal search, sort of like a Mod holy grail. I shall succeed. Well maybe, hopefully I will. So if anyone is looking in who was a Mod during the late 70s and early 80s please get in contact if you have any photo's that could show these young whippersnappers how it was done.
The guy who ran the club was called Lawrie, but I am not sure if that referred to his forename or surname. There was actually a stage area that could have accommodated a band, but I never saw one play at the Scene.
I know I heard Wass and Mick Paton often talk about a club (possibly in Paisley) called The Abercorn. There was also a pub or club in Edinburgh, but I can't remember the name During the Scene Club time there was often a Mod night run by the CVS in Airdrie. But it always seemed to end in a barney between the Glasgow Mods and part of the CVS known as Section 25.
I am enjoying reading all the posts regarding the Scene club,it sounded like a fantastic place to be.
`We are the Mods`
The best things come to those who wait, at least I'm filling the meter with ten bobs to keep the site running.
As far as I know Charlie Lawrie was not really a bouncer. He was quite skinny, but his brother did a turn as a bouncer, and he was stockier. I do have an image of Lawrie wearing a polo neck (not a DC5 one) right enough. Another song I think we should add to the Scene Club Juke Box is 'Get offa My Cloud' by The Stones. I listened to it the other day on my ipod and it took me right back. Have we mentioned 'Too Many Fish in the Sea' already ?
I used to love going down on a Saturday night just to stand outside and hang around with all the other Mods who were too young to get in,It was on one of those nights that i first met Charlie.I only went down to look at the scooters and the clothes the other Mods were wearing, there used to be dozens of Mods every Saturday night and my only wish on those nights was to be that bit older so i could get in and be with `The In Crowd`..it`s no fun being 15.
It`s ironic because after the Scene club shut its doors,a couple of years later the Mods were back in Oswald Street hanging around Breakers pub.
Good recall Steveo1 about those pillars. I had actually forgotten all about them. I definitely had not forgotten about getting my parka back at the end of the night though. The Mod night at The Winchester Club was quite reminscent of the Scene Club to me. I know the Scene Club was more square shaped, with more wee side rooms. But the black decor was similar, as was the wee cloakroam. At the end of the night I said to my cousin about how it reminded me of the Scene Club cloakroam, with the only difference being that the Scene Club one was absolutely full of Parkas. As far as I remember Steveo1 there was a ticket stub given out at the Scene. The only problem with me was the amount of times I lost it, but still strangely ended up with my own parka.
I also have to say that 'Gloria' by Them is another Scene Club track that was played but I had forgotten all about Charlie. One I also remembered from the other day was 'My Baby Just Cares for Me' by Nina Simone.
I remember very well that they were bench type seats along the walls. I remember one night we had so much to drink that one of our crowd had to go home without even reaching the Scene. We watched him standing at that bus stop accross from the club with a bag of chips, which he could not even hold the right way up. We did somehow make it there, but I lay down on the bench next to the girls toilets and next minute the place was spinning as if I was on the waltzers. It was some carry out mind you. A gallon of shammy from the Sarry Heid, a bottle of Old English wine, and then we met two Mod girls down the clydeside who gave us two of their cans of Carlsberg.
The Scene Club was actually a bit further up Oswald Street than Ivory Blacks NG. Probably about three doors up heading towards Glasgow Central Station. It was also different in that it was not based on the ground floor. As far as I remember it was on the second floor, but I am not 100% certain on that one.
Lammy Chick you should bring your gravatar picture back, you are a beautiful looking girl,if you don`t mind me saying.

Hurry up Angie,i`m dying tae see the pictures.

On second thoughts he would have probably come in a gas guzzler and then wrote a song about the ills of polution.
Where is the pictures?
Credit were credit is due, he stated he based his drumming style on Roger Powell The Actions drummer
I like the photo of yourself. I take it you were a big admirer of cool chick Sandie Shaw !
Saw The Action play in the 100 Club and there was two drum kits set up, Roger Powell on one and Phil Collins on the other. Phil Collins was living the dream playing drums with his idol !!!
can i hold the jackets?
Nite-Nite
If your names not down your not getting in haha
Only Kiddin N.G..
Oh Phil Collins..well he`s an arse.!
Before you get any ideas about our house being empty I have set up a Phil Collins CD to run constantly. That will keep everyone well away. Apart from NG. You will just have to sleep in the field down the bottom of the road and listen to the 'music.'
Fudgie do you remember a bit of graffiti down the Clydeside that said "The grass is dead, fudgie" BOLD STATEMENT, but I loved it
Well, as one seriously funny Irish comedian used to say 'Good night, and may your Dog go with you.'
I noticed a lot of posting today from Wolverhampton???Who stays there?...they were following me..lol
N.G. i have to admit you scunnered me last night,i just logged on and you knew i was there...ya smoked sausage....i was speachless.. and owned up as i sh.t maself...hahaha
Big Brother beat it....,..
It was a sad day when it shut cos the Mod scene died on its arse efter that.
Chris a was one of those guys who hung aboot in the lassies toilet, done maist of my best work in there.
Im sure big Lawrie did the DJing before Colin so he probably covered for the wee man.
Well done Chris in smashing through the 500 mark, at least it will give the WEM something to talk about.
I'm trying to suss out my new wireless printer, Charlie I may need you to give me a hand when I lean out of the window looking for a reception haha
Good to hear that you have admitted the offence of hanging about at the girls toilets LGP. Was that another one of the places that you planked your half bottles ? It was a pity about the fighting. (not just in the club) If everyone had behaved even half decently it may have lasted quite a while longer.
And I know how you survived Lammy, but I don't want to get started with that karaoke classic here Li Li !
Is i before e, a should have went tae school.
Lammy Chick the mod scene in Glasgow was the Scene Club when it ended there was no were for younger Mods to go ( under 18 or at least u18 who could get in a boozer, the Star Club was kinda a place to go but I got barred so that fucked that( also got my membership card for there, nae wonder I coudnae get a job in Faslane, keep the Red Flag Flying High or is it the Championship 1 2 3 ?.
As for the Star Club, I may have a friend who could write an article on the origins of that club, and how it was formed. I suppose that would have more to do with Glasgow social history than the Mod scene.
Re reciepts for suits, made to measure out Douglas' ,deposit then pay it up.That was the way of it.Got an emerald green gaberdine about ÂŁ80. Came across it again in the back of a wardrobe in the early 90s got a fuckin fright (man it was loud, split seams n aw that shite) needless tae say the it didnae fit.If ye remember anybody running about such a suit in the Scene Club then it was probably me, no photos that a know of though.
Got ma first suit made early 1980 in Norman Slaters, a wee tailor in the penn next to C/A in the toon, felt a million dollars the day a picked it up.Trouble was I didnae know any other Mods at that time.
I've also got a green pair of John Stewarts hipsters kicking around, god know who I could get to model them, I've got no chance of getting into them, nice to know one was skinny at one time.
Remember a shop under the Central Bridge (heilanmans umbrella) that sold quality lambs wool casuals nippy but better than some of the shite some punters were gettin out " Dees of the Gallowgate".
There was always the Briggait though, remember a lot of guy rummaging through there. Good friend of mine got a camel coat out of it and got it made into a jacket, I would say that was the only success story that I saw out of the Briggait
I still have a receipt somewhere for made to measure trousers from Doogies in St Enoch Square. The clothes, the music, the people, and the scooters were definitely what it was all about to me. I could never have been a scooter boy either, as with the greatest of respect (sort of) I thought they looked crap. Recently I was reading in Scootering magazine an article about Secret Affair. Mr Page was saying that they had a sort of love/hate relationship with scooter boys, and at some gigs they turn up with t-shirt saying on them 'I'm not a Mod.' It would be good to get a t-shirt made with 'Thank f... for That' on it and stand next to one of them.
I remember the wee shop under the Jamaica bridge that sold the expensive Byfords. I could not afford one out of there at that time, but I definitely did manage a few pretty cool purchases down the Briggait.
I actually thought it was pretty obvious, minus the T-shirt that they weren't Mods.
I think they are better off sticking to King Kurt, Combat Rock, and The Cockney Rejects and stay away from good bands.
i also remember a do at the star club and that the wooden dance floor would bounce up and down with the dancers - which was a bit unnerving...
oats in maryhill york st
And I remember well shieldsy and that mob doing the paper vans. Why was John McQuillan called Dangermouse ?
Well I'd better toddle off to slumberland. Sadly work awaits tomorrow.
When you think on it, the Scene Club crowd would have been rather difficult to say the least.
I also remember you telling us about the wedding day with wee Maggie. But I won't go into that on here. Anyway, I think it was compulsory for grooms to be drunk at their wedding in the 80s, and 90s, and even now. The only difference lately is that the girls are also getting in on the act.
Left a post about a guy who built his ain bike in Mickeys. Im sure his first name was Stevie, I think he was from Toryglen. Ring any bells, took him about a year to get the thing built so he was in Mickeys just about every day.
I am not sure about the guy building the Lambretta,GP125. The only one I remember was the guy that rebuilt an LI 125 from scratch and Croney eventually bought it. But I did not know the guy or where he came from.
Need to get some sort of reunion going wae some of us old mods.
I'm not teetotal yet!!
So let us know what tracks you remember Mick, Trina, Stevie, and Andy.
If you look at the photo section Jimmy has also added a couple of my early 80s photo's to the one's that I previously had on. I am sure you may recognise the the two girls. One is Jean from Dennistoun, and the other is Jackie Shea from the East End. I am not sure if she is the Jackie you were referring to the other night.
And cheers for that once again Jimmy.
If Charlie see's that I'm on here I'll be getting docked again.
Did you see the photo's with the two girls in them at the end of my photo's ?
I was fairly sure that I would have known you. All I need now is to see a photo of you from that time.
One time we were sitting at the bandstand and Paddy's dad came up in his van with Paddy inside. He asked if I wanted to earn a few quid. I did say yes indeed, but only if it did not involve dead bodies. His dad worked at a funeral parlour !
Love the new gravatar Lammy, very cool and sophisticated Mod look.
The Gavatar, funny you should mention it, she, IMO, the modernist of her time, but i'm going to add something on Janny's article about Lulu, as this lady has a connection.
The first time I saw Paddy he had this horendous brown coloured Vespa 90 or 100 Lammy. Blackpool was a place I never went to as a Mod. I remember the guys talking about Blackpool September 1980. There was a bit of a fight with some skins and Chaz threw one of them through a window, which was quite nice of him really. And the talk of those horties brings back memorys of paying a small fortune in fines; money that I could ill afford.
Another record that I remember from the Scene Club was 'Bread and Butter' by The Newbeats. In fact, I think I also have that record up in the loft. If we keep going like this we could make a Glasgow Scene Club CD.
The brown scooter that Paddy had (about October 81) could have been a Vespa 90, 100, or even a Primavera, I'm sure you must remember it. I did not know him then. I was outside the Scene Club one night, just talking as usual, and Paddy and two or three other guys pulled up on their scooters. One of them may even have been you. But what stuck in my mind was the colour of that scooter.
The time I saw you guys, plus Paddy on his brown machine was a Saturday night, so no chance of it looking good in the sun. I was sure it was a Vespa 90, because I had one myself. They had the most remarkable engines ever. I could leave mine lying in a room in the winter for weeks, and it would still kick start first time everytime. I hope you gave him the stick he deserved for that scooter.
I did however own a rusty brown colour Vauxhall Chevet haha
Its funny how you say that Steveo1. I sold my 90 to a mate when I got my 150 Super. He let it go to rack and ruin, and it lay at the bottom of his flats untouched for about six months in all the winter weather. Even after all that it still started on the second kick, so I am not in the least surprised that you reached Scarborough on one. When I was on mine I could do a steady 50 mph from here to anywhere without a hint of a problem. I also regretted selling mine.
I will also say that along with the GS I would consider the GT 200 to be my perfect Mod version of a scooter.
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/...
For anyone looking in who had and liked either a PK or a Cosa I am sorry. But no one made you buy it.
I also have to say that for your first post it is very negative. A lot of people (like myelf) never really gave up listening to the great music favoured by Mods. But despite that the last time I went to a rally was 1986. After that last one in Morecambe I swore that I would never attend a national rally again. I would think about a Mod event, but I would not touch a national with a barge pole. We have discussed this a wee bit before, and most agree that having a scooter was the least important factor to being a Mod. In my time I had two, but the clothes, and the music were definitely more important.
On a lighter note I hope everyone likes my grav. It is dedicated to all the Mods who are no longer with us, but especially to the Sighthill Glory Boys, Big Doc and Johnny Wallace, who were probably involved in the original Mod grafitti that all Mods on our side of the water were so familiar with.
i'm not sure it really matters what a mod has between their legs - and i personally don't even watch Eastenders - Chris C obviously prefers Coronation Street.
The NG Mods were well represented in Glasgow and still are.
WE ARE THE MODS
Glad someone appreciates my grav NG. I suppose unless you came from the north of the city it would not have any real significance. The amount of times I passed that wall with the original grafitti on the way into the town was incredible, and I always meant to take a photo of it. Like so many things I didn't and before we knew it the building was away.
And I have to point out that you are correct Stevie, and I am more of a street person than an Eastenders one, and no it has nothing to do with the name. But apart from those two and River City, Neighbours, Home and Away, Brookside, and Thomas the Tank Engine I don't really watch soaps. And since we are on the subject did anyone ever see 'No Angels' when it was on. Beauiful nurses and an amazing soul soundtrack to go with it, what more could you ask for.
Anyway, Keep the Faith - it's good to have your opinions on board.
It is actually good to sometimes hear views that don't particularly correspond with my own. When I was first into the Mod scene in the end of 1980 I made it one of my main priorites to get a scooter. And by the Spring of the following year I was the proud owner of a nice wee Vespa 90 bought from Mickey Oates. I kept that until the end of 82 when I bought a 150 Super. I spent a lot of money trying to do it up, and I did get it looking good, but It was eating up too much money as a project and I decided then that I was going to be a scooterless Mod, and concentrate on the clothes and records. I did miss not having a scooter, but I did not for one moment feel any less of a Mod for not having one. In fact, the money I saved by not getting fines all the time for taking people on the back let me build up a decent selection of classic Mod discs.
Mini Coopers, "Pychedelic Mick" was one of them, one of the coolest Mods
I ever seen at The Scene. A Paul Weller "MINI me" literally his image. I don't do
Mod following myself, I do cool, LI,LI Whoru, I started off as a Plastic Mod myself, I was 14 and looking for a direction, but before being a Mod I was
into all things, anything that was about the 60's, the fun, the dancing, music
clothes and fashion. The cars as well as the Scooters. Bonds Aston Martin.
Can't forget the E-Type Jag,and off course the mini, cars not skirts.....on
second thoughts oh aye, the woman, can't forget them, eh? I think an Aston Martin would get you a girls phone number quicker than a Scooter in December
Whoru, lol. Anyway thanks for for your opinions, if you have any photos you
would share with us, send them to admin@glasgowmods.co.uk,we woud love to see them Take care.
WE ARE THE MODS
The final thing I want to say on this matter, and it is more of a question to start off with. Is did you feel comfortable going to national scooter rally's as a Mod after, say the middle of 1983? At two successive rallies; Dumbar June 83, and Scarborough August 83 I became involved in slanging matches with the combats and doc martin brigade that had then taken over. I personally did not feel comfortable going to the rally's as a Mod then, in fact it felt like we were outsiders. The last straw came in Morecambe 86. I was not a Mod by then but the sight of hundreds of skins giving it the right hand salute at the Sunday night do was more than enough to end my four year stint at going to national rally's. I have never been back since.
And to Charlie. Its funny but I was just thinking about the Scene Club the other night and I remembered Mick fae Craigend. We all went to The Jam's last Apollo gig together in November 82.
Chris, he is still around in the background somewhere. the Rallies have changed
a lot now Chris, I think you would enjoy them a lot better now, if your up for one
next year, give me a shout, it will be fun, guaranteed.
I don't know if I would ever venture on to a national again mate. No disrespect meant to people with different outlooks than myself, but I just do not have anything in common with scooterists, scooter boys etc. Apart from some of the music obviously. I can't even say with all honesty that I have any time for what most feel goes for a scooter. But then I am very traditional in my scooter tastes.
As I said in an earlier post, better times were around the corner, don't want to go into it too much, I'll leave that for a future article. Your sentiments and recollections are spot on though.
Although I was not around as a Mod then, I can imagine the starting of the Mod only rallies being a good idea against some of the complete arseholes that were appearing on the nationals. Two words 'King' and 'Kurt' spring to mind to descibe how fuckin low that nationals got.
I do quite like the sound of Friday Street, as long as I go down when they have finished the JLL stuff.
Excellent answer Lammy Chick....WE ARE THE GLASGOW MODS..!!!
and i was a mod after 83 so can i be in your book?
I was a mod from 81 to around 89.....bring on the book.!!!
By the way....Who are you?....Li.Li
My copy of the Mods 'bible' fell to pieces years ago but maybe 'whoru' will help us write a new testament for those who weren't fortunate enough to be there before '83...
I`m heartbroken...a Glasgow Mods book without wee Fudgie.!!!
can i hit you with my dummy?
the movie.
whoru...i think you have always been a scooter boy...either that or an arse.!
`We are the Glasgow Mods`...and we loved the one-up..!!!
Find yer own places and stop stealing our thunder.
`We are the Glasgow Mods`.
Are you enjoying the show so far?
Take the batteries oot and gies another chance?
Now what was the question?
DO I KNOW YOU?
that was a few months back, but it looks like we might have another addition .... I was wondering when someone was going to give us a challenge...
Charlie, we founded the one up around late 82 if my memory serves me .. We converted it from a wagon wheels breakfast club into a mod boozer....
Buckfast and Redbull er......am I getting near to revealing the identity of Whoru?? The show goes on!
The Shamrock were from the North not the East End
See youz when I set up a new login
: )
Lammy Chick tae answer yer question....I got a big wan....Li.Li
Li.Li....hehehe
`THE BEST`
anyway...i am coming up for 41 so i am not much younger than you mate.....not original from 79 ...BUT...I WAS THERE THROUGH THE HARD TIMES..
`We are the Glasgow Mods`
And I thought you'se would know what a Lambretta innocenti was anyway...
What have i done now to offend you?
It`s not my fault if you come fae the Bronx.....let me know why/how i have offended you....many thank`s.
Anyway, how's life in the outback ? And to Andy, how much did you charge people to let them sit on your scooter on the day of the run out ? Its a lovely scooter it has to be said, but how has it lasted in the Garngad this long without being half inched
HAHAHA
Of course it's great to have them - and very enjoyable to read the banter!
Haven't you been 'moving house' for about a month now? Sure the missus hasn't grounded you from the PC recently?
It used to be the EE Mods who held the world record (three in a row) for starting a fight in an empty house. I'll bet Andy or Mik have been in the company of an Eastender recently and the trouble making vibes have rubbed off Li Li !
and a glesga mods book without wee Fudgie??....well i never....IT IS A FAKE...!!!!
Yes, the Scene club - blah blah blah - fighting, east end mods, globbies etc etc that should do...
LMFAO
WEM
- but i think think mr whoru has got his nose stuck in that bible again:
Pete Meaden letter to the Who:
'though shalt not put any false Gods before that of the Li'
Wanna Fight?
Don't worry about Jimmy seeing this stuff Stevie. Just don't say anything, and if he does see it we'll just say it was all dummy fighting Li Li ! Mods never fought each other for real in Glasgow. Apart from when Shug found out about his trousers that were now shorts.
Nite-Nite....zzZZZzzzzz
and `We are the West-End Mods`
WEM
I also agree with taking the amp out if there is a rubbish band on. Wass wasn't in Manchester in May was he ? Li Li
Goodnght Folks.

How ye doing Mick, its the one half of the Mods fae Anderston here, the good looking wan, give Wass my regards.
I'm sure I passed you about 4 years ago on Paisley Road, you had a black mod suit on - then I thought maybe it wasn't you as yours was always green.
Whoru, I'll call you Andy, the answer is unfortunately yes.Am I correct with the name.
If ye's are still taken a pint geez a shout n we'll meet up.
to a Ouija board to save money!! Probably flogging Auld Nick some Vespa
parts in return. P.S Don't tell Jimmy The Mod or he will have Auld Nick as
an editor, doing write ups for the site for his "idle hands", LI,LI!!
ready to go, I will ask for Jerry Lee Lewis in your absence, I am sure they are
aching to of play the Maestro of Soul when I walk in,LI,LI !!
as Julio Inglesias has on Motown, Rock 'n' Roll or 100% Mod......mmmmm. Let me think???
How about a Mod house warming party to meet the new neighbours !!!
and it soon revved up, one the girls from "Eye's Wide Open" even played "Just
Like Me" one of the Paul Revere And The Raiders, one of my old tunes from
The One Up days, magic!! Cheers for that, nice to know the younger crowd
have got into the swing of things in their thirst for all things 60's. Are you going
to the next Friday Street, Lammy Chick? Hope to see you there.
Hey Whoru, Angie says your a lightweight, thats why you fell asleep in the
close, LILI!! Take it easy amigo!!
Glad to hear you had a Fab night at Friday Street Charlie, I always enjoy it when I can make it to Scotland, but the great company is essential for a great night out also, which you kind Glasgow folk always supply :-). You mentioned that they played "Just like Me", mmmmmm hard on to dance to I would say, a lot of clapping is essential I expect? Charlie number 425 above will explain our next venture to Friday Steet, you off to Melting Pot tonight?
as long as they don't let me in, ho ho!! Hope to se you and Steve01 in the coming months, take care Shimmy on!!!
Did you have a sky blue GP.
Bob & Earl "Too Many Fish In The Sea" by The Velvettes and "Hello I love You" by The Doors, and "Venus" by Shocking Blue, oh aye anything by Spencer Davis Group, were great floorfillers. Still are, always will be.
Its an "accquired" taste of music Jackie G, here are you related to
the Alto Sax player from the 90's Kenny G? ho,ho!
Did they no teach these in blackhill. . . ? come to think of it . . . your doin fine gettin to the stage your at :)
And before I forget again, tell Angie I was asking after her, and that she is still a great dancer.
merchandise and the same for Psychedelia, what a load of tat!
Checked out 8 different websites, your all con artist, not one
of them has offered V.F.M Even quality, is bog standard.
When did The Real Thing "You To Me Are Everything" become
Northern Soul? Should be sued under the Trades Description
Act for that alone!! Its D.I.S.C.O, sorry thats Ottowan,
or is that Northern Soul too?
No, don't buy it at all , think there is room for plenty of
competition, they are making a killing out of the name.
Arhur Daley's the lot of them!!!
Andy - John McLaughlin had a red 150 super, I went a couple of runs with him at the time
And thanks for the welcome NG. I definitely think I qualify as a Mod due to the 'clean living under difficult circumstances' banner. This house we have moved into must be the mankiest in the whole of Bishie. It'll take about three weeks just to get the place clean. There is a very large back garden needing a trim if you are volunteering.
Sorry Chris never had big Peter McGuigan, I had Miss Paterson which might explain a lot cause she was nuts
Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods Glesga Mods
I could well imagine Wass being slightly unhappy with the Will tag, but I suppose it is better than the wee animal fae the Young One's, or Jock. I remember Miss Paterson although I never got her for English. I got McGuigan, an older guy with a hump whose name escapes me just now (maybe Toal), and a guy called Henderson. One of the best characters was Wilson down at History. Remember he used to nip out to the big Glen for a couple of halfs. I also saw him batter wee Paul Ferris up against the window in the corridor.
Did you see Stevies video message that he posted yesterday ? he may do one for your 1000th post, the Mod on the scooter looked really cool !!!
Some other Scene Club classics I could suggest were 'Yeah Yeah' by Georgie Fame, '1.2.3' by Len Barry, 'Heatwave' by Martha and the Vandella's, 'Needle in a Haystack by The Velvelletes, I'm a Man' by Spence Davis, 'Bread and Butter' by The Newbeats, and anything by Jerry Lee Lewis Li Li!
Who are the Mods in the current front page NG ? Are they from your time in the mid to late 80s ?
As for your other tunes, I saw them all earlier apart from The Newbeats, so we'll get them posted in due course along with "Venus" thank god I spelt that right haha
Could not disagree with the Arthur Conley classic. It always packed the dance floor and rightly so. On a slightly more druggy note I always really liked 'I had too Much to Dream Last Night.' by The Seekers Li Li !
Cheers mate for adding that excellent song that evokes such fantastic memories of our tea total Scene Club days.
That sort of music is usually not really my cup of tea, but there are a few brilliant tracks from that late 60s acid period.
Staying in is the new going out, a few beers, great tunes and its a paaaarty
I'm also very much relieved to hear that staying in is the new going out. I am personally out all of the time now.
