Can't even remember how it started, but it wasn't a mod thing.

Don't know if you seen my earlier post about the Drifters (or Ben E King) track played at Afterglow? I would start a thread but being a technophobe don't know how. Am getting totally obsessed, so all help appreciated!

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Well, are you the Stevie K whose in some of our photos (in the Mod Hairstyles one with the 'french crop')? - your sister used to hang about with us sometimes.

It wasn't much of an altercation outside Hollywood Studios - involved £5 - and it was all sorted afterwards (except my nose which has given me gip ever since!).

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Don't think so! I'm now wondering if it was by one of the 'copy' bands of that era, but if it's a copy it's a good one. It's been in my head for weeks, I wish I could remember some of the lyric though, would make the search much easier! One bonus has been listening to some of the mid sixties Drifters stuff for the first time in years, I forgot how good it was! Thanks again.

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Was it, "I'll Take You Where The Musics Playing"??

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

'You got to pay your dues' that should have been. It's an older number, I'd guess from the time of 'At the club', circa '63 or'64, lots of horns, with (I think) Johhny Moore singing. Thanks anyway Charlie.

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Sorry Stevie K, I wasn't there, could suggest, "You Got To Pay Your Dues" by The Drifters if thats any help??

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Folks - I'm driving myself mental trying to remember the name of a Drifters track I've heard a few times at Afterglow recently. I for one do not have anything against any of the Gerry and the Pacemakers stuff. 'When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark.' It does bring tears to the eye right enough Li Li !

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Don't want to spoil the party, Colin played "I'm The One" by Gerry And The Pacemakers one night in The Scene Club, I was dancing to it, fool that I was, but a happy one, lets not forget, we were kids at heart , I was 17 then, always puzzles me when people cringe at a Pacemakers song, but sing their hearts out and weep at his most famous Football song???? Very mysterious puzzle, ha ha!!

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Maybe he played it one night as a dare Stevie. But I would like to think that the original would be preferred to the crap rip off version. I certainly remember 100% clearly the other Contous classic (First I Look at the Purse) being very big in both the Scene Club and the Lindella.

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

got to argree with chris,if do you love me was played it was definetly the contours version,i can't imagine colin playing brian poole and the turdoloesLILI

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Hi Steve I've got a record by this American band, just wondering if you knew anything about them.

Henrietta And The Hairdooz - You Got A Lot To Learn it was written by Frank Pelaez and is on the Liberty label.

Thanks for your support

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

cool songs. thanks.

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Why don't you add The Polish and Scene Club records toThe Jukebox for a link???

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

I have been out shopping for DIY crap. Exciting stuff such as draught excluders and paint brushes that go into strange nooks and crannys. I am hoping to have the place looking the part by the end of the weekend, and after that I may even let people in for a cuppa.

Glad to hear that you have manged to purchase a copy of the real 'Do You Love Me.' I have referred to so many songs that I do indeed forget which one's Lammy is referring to. I imagine it may be the Brian Poodle and the Tremblers version of 'Do You Love Me.' I can't recall it being played in the Scene but Charlie can. But, as I have said before, I could well (A) Have been the worse for wear, or (B) Ran out of the place screeming the second I heard it coming on Li Li !

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

I wouldn't worry too much Lammy Chick, knowing Mr C he's probably forgotten already what he said !!

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Louie Louie was a fav in The Scene Club for defo, I don't recall the tunes Chris refers to below though, but if you give me the full titles and artists, i will look them up on You Tube, to see if I recall them.

Re: The Polish Club - 7 Clairmont Gardens

Cheers mate.
