  I have the 5 live Yardbirds recorded at the old Marquee on Vinyl with no turntable now to play it. Brilliant LP from a great band. Not bad if you were a Mod in London in the 60's and you could go out for lunch and listen to Eric Clapton playing top R&B numbers. Got a couple of CD's with some of the live recordings on it but it's not the same. Another one for the collection is the BBC recordings with Sonny Boy Williamson. Big Yardbirds fan mate and need to get a turntable and dig out the old stuff. Hope to see you this week at the Mod Weekender.

  Hi Robert, I will be posting the whole series soon once I get time, It would be great to get your recordings on to mp3 and we could do a write up about it... I loved the yardbirds too they were very ahead of the time stamp. N.G Mods has a turntable for recording the LP's.
  
  Sadly I wont be at the weekender I have meetings in Europe to attend and will be travelling to Asia in the next few weeks.

  Just how cool was Keith Relf The Yardbirds main man? A lot of people quote, Clapton, Page, "it was all about the music man" For coolness my money is on Mr Relf. You don't hear a lot of tunes around with a Harmonica sound, probably as they are to busy doing a drive by shooting, while dissin' their Ho's on their mobiles, never seen a drIve by shooting on a Scooter while dissin' a Biker from a phone box either! I live in hope, eh? Hee hee!

  I'm with you on the Keith (Blues Harp) Relf beng the main man Charlie. I know Clapton is a renowned Guitarist as is Jimmy Page, but I was never a fan of Eric Clapton's other stuff. Big apologies to Cream fans but it was just not my cup of (cream) tea. Was it Jimmy Page that bought that house up north that was once owned by the most evil man in the world, and was possessed by satan ? Maybe that was where that scooter came from.

  You mean Alastair Crowley's house near Loch Ness, oh yes, Jimmy Page wrote the classic "Stairlift To Heaven" there, the things people do to write a hit album,eh? He may have had the music talent, but not Keiths coolness, thats one thing money or selling the soul can't buy, envy,vanity and greed, 3 of Old Nicks favourite sins. I thing Beezlebubs Scooter passed its M.O.T in Mickey Oates, if you spell his name backwards it reads, "can you prove your scooter fell apart as you drove away from here?" Spooky or what?

  Did the early eighties Mod band The Direct Hits, did they not do a song about Alastair Crowley ? I had the chance years ago to buy a full set of Yardbirds autographs on a Columbia sleeve, including Keith Relf, with hindsight maybe I should have bought them !
  
  Anybody got the Keith Relf solo stuff ?

  I'll bet you are kicking yourself now NG. (not literally) I have a copy of the Five Live LP and the energy is fantastic as well as the songs. The Yardbirds early stuff was much played in the Scene club and Lindella, and that is where I was first introduced to it.
  
  By all accounts Aleister Crowley was one very weird dude, who sent himself over the edge with his occult dealings. After Jimmy Page gave up the highlands house as being too spooky it sat unused for years. I don't know if anyone has taken it on during the past few years, but no one would go near it for a long time.
  
  Here's hoping that everyone is looking forward to this weekend, and can manage to get along to some of the very good sounding do's that will be on.

  Chris, The Yardbirds autographs will always be one those situations, should I or shouldn't I, it was ten years ago and the asking price was £90, the fact that I still dwell on it maybe I should have.
  
  I also recall geting a lovely Yardbirds LP down the Barras about 25 years, I was so lucky to get up the road with it, the amount of offers I had for it, I couldn't even sit down in the Hiwiian Grill incase somebody tried tae blag it !
  
  After all these years, still a great band to listen too. That reminds me, I saw them, The Yardbirds a few years back, although theres only two original members in them now, the drummer and bass player.

  £90 was (and is) a lot of money, so I can see why you were in two minds NG. It would have been great to see them performing some of their great music, even if it was only a couple of the original performers in the line up.
  
  I remember about 1984 I came across two original Dave Clark 5 photo albums. All the photos were from 1964 and 1965, many of them taken in the RSG studio's. I did not have the money on me to buy them at the time, and the people who were selling them in the Briggait were looking for quite a lot so I did not bother. But looking back it would have been good to be the owner of all those original and unique photo's.
  
  I also have to say that I am not really a fan of the Dave Clark 5's music. But I knew I was looking at a good bit of musical history.

  Chris that reminds me of the time I was down the barras and up the stairs at Pearsons Record stall. He had this lovely EP by The Crystals behind the counter for sale. One thing leads to another, the price ?? Jesus I nearly choked when he quoted £15 !!! £15 for a record in the early 8ts, was a s**t load of dosh.
  
  Then there was the time I went to my first record fair, thank god Michael from the Briggait was there, or i wouldn't have bought a thing !

  I remember the stall up the stairs, next to the Squirrel bar NG. I bought quite a few records there but would not have dreamed of stumping up £15, even for something good in the early 80s. There are a few I have that I would have considered paying top dollar for, but most times I did not have the money to make that choice then.
  
  To tell the truth I always thought it was a bit of a cheek that some off these people actually knew the true value of the records they had. If we wanted great records at big money prices, we could have went to record fairs. As you said NG you would certainly pay for the priviege there.

  Pearsons Record stall, many a weekend was spent trawling through his scratchy 45s in the hope there may be a hidden gem, sadly it wasn't the case, the best you got was a Motown, Atlantic, Stax with a bit of shine still on it. You could have planted tatties in some of those records !!! The best stuff he had, well what I thought was, was the LPs on display above the stall. I may have purchased my original Small Faces, Small Faces LP from him, the red Decca one for £10, but it aint really in the best of condition sound wise. It was more a status symbol to say, I own a copy of such LP.

  The most dissapointing thing about most of the purchases that I made were, as you say, the condition. I have some fantastic records that are all but worthless due to their condition. But I suppose after lying about in the Barras or Brigait for years, without a cover, there would be little chance of them being in good condition. The only really good thing about them was that I could still play them on my old wreck of a record player.
  
  I still did manage to buy a few crackers that were amazingly in great nick. I still have them, although I treasure them so much that I do not play them any more.
